Notes In the early days of telegraphy driving forks were used by a sending station and a recieving station to sycronize the speed of the sending and recieving instruments which made for a clearer signal. In later years (1930s to 1950s) they were used to establish several different frequencies in a line, simultaniously, allowing for "multiplexing" or sending and recieving several messages at the same time.
